The surprise aspect is one of the things I love the most about fashion editorials. How exciting it is to open Vogue or W and see an unexpected element incorporated into a fabulous look. For instance, taking a vintage piece and pairing it with something new or mixing unexpected texture with bold color. In the featured image, this metallic silk Dior mini dress is shown with a vintage mid-century Bill Blass coat from Neiman Marcus. The bold orange and purple of the tapestry coat is an immediate contrast to the muted silk dress. The result is infinitely more interesting than a monochromatic ensemble. Quirky mixes of pieces also allow you to show different aspects of your personality. Don’t be afraid to step outside the box with your own looks. Have fun and experiment by combining your newer pieces with something vintage.
